My own AI journey

I was skeptical of AI initially. There was a lot of hype and "tech bros" selling AI-this and AI-that.

But the hype didn't fade away.

And I started to see folks sharing incredible demos of using AI tools with Google Sheets.

So I knew I needed to take a proper look. That was back in January of 2023.

It didn't take long for me to see the benefits.

Whenever I was writing Apps Script, I found myself reaching for ChatGPT to give me a headstart. I described my problem and ChatGPT generated useful code for me, saving me hours of research.

It's really transformed how I work with Google Sheets.

And best of all, using AI tools is not rocket science.

You don't need to delve into the weeds of how different models work or understand parameter tuning. You can use these AI tools just like you use any other online tool.

My takeaway: Don't put AI up on a pedestal. Anyone can use it.

Through experience, I've learned how to write good prompts to increase the chance of getting a useful response. I've found which workflows benefit from AI as well as which workflows don't. And I’ve figured out how to apply these tools to Google Sheets, to make my everyday work faster and more accurate.

I've deliberately stuck to mature tools within the AI space so that they're likely to be around for a while.

This is not a course about the cutting edge of AI research. It's focused on practical applications using publicly available, easy-to-use tools.

Benefits of using AI

There are many benefits to using AI in Google Sheets, including:

• Increasing productivity: AI can automate tasks that would otherwise be time-consuming and tedious, freeing up your time for more important work.
• Improving accuracy: AI can help you identify errors in your data and clean up your data.
• Better decision-making: AI can provide you with insights that can help you make better decisions about your business.
• Making expert-level features, like REGEX formulas or scripts, accessible to everyone.

The great promise of AI is to level the playing field and give everyone access to expert-level skills.

And whilst we're not there yet, the industry has made enormous strides in the past year. It's a great time to discover what all the fuss is about and add some expert spreadsheet skills to your toolset.

A better way to learn

We all have good intentions to learn new skills but finding the time can be a challenge.

Life is busy. I have two young children so I know firsthand how difficult it can be to find time for new projects.

Online courses with hundreds of videos feel overwhelming. And despite all that initial enthusiasm, we never get around to mastering that new skill.

So that's why I've deliberately kept this course concise and to the point. It only takes about 2.5 hours to watch the 16 videos, so you could complete this course over a couple of lunch breaks.

My goal is not to teach you everything there is to know about AI. (That would be impossible anyway!)

Instead, my goal is to give you a launchpad and a set of recipes that you can immediately apply.
